How To Start Volunteering with VES
Vineyard English School (VES) simply couldn’t run without its incredible volunteers. Week in, week out, they create a warm, encouraging space where lives are changed. Whether it's teaching a class, supporting a learner one-to-one, helping with childcare, setting up the room, or keeping things running behind the scenes—every role matters, and every volunteer makes a difference.
We welcome people from all backgrounds and with all kinds of skills. You don’t need to be a qualified teacher—what matters most is a willingness to serve, a friendly attitude, and a readiness to muck in wherever needed.
We offer regular training and support, so you'll never feel like you're doing it alone. Roles include:
Teaching and assisting in English classes
Working with children during adult classes
Hospitality and logistics
Admin, communications, and behind-the-scenes support
Most volunteers serve once a week during school term times, though there’s flexibility depending on your availability. In 2024 alone, our volunteers gave over 1,000 hours of their time—an amazing picture of community in action.
The best way to get started is by visiting us one morning to see VES in action. This can be easily arranged via email through Andy. If you decide to join us, we’ll help get everything set up—including a DBS check, which is required for all ongoing volunteers.
Ready to take the first step? Send us an email at andy@croydonvineyard.org.uk — we’d love to meet you.
